After a good season of lychees, longans have transitioned into my favoured fruit at present. They’re not the easiest to come by, so I’ve branched out into longan flavoured foods too. This here is Royal Family Grain Mochi Longan Flavor.
Each box contained 6 pieces of mochi in their own paper holders.
Each piece is about 3.5 cm in diameter, dusted lightly with coconut and has a light brown colour with darker brown spots throughout. It’s made from dried longans and jujubes (Chinese dates).
The mochi has a prominent smoky aroma that’s characteristic of dried longan and came through on tasting. The jujubes aren’t nearly half as generous as the packaging will suggest and only feature sparsely on the surface. That said, they do add chewy bits of texture that contrast with the soft longan flavoured mochi. The mochi has a gummy texture that’s comparable to a gummy bear without the stretch that is enjoyable, but the smoky longan flavour with the jujubes gave the mochi a very Asian flavour of which we’re not too fond as the crispness of fresh longans is absent.
This Royal Family Grain Mochi Longan Flavour contained 150 g. It was produced in Taiwan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
