This is the Usagi Mochi Yaite Taberu Anko Mochi Kurogoma An. It’s a filled mochi that’s ready to eat after minimal preparation.

Each package contained four circular pieces of mochi, each 6 cm in diameter and about 0.8 cm in height. The filling is made with a mix of red bean and black sesame paste, while black sesame seeds are also embedded into the exterior mochi.

We prepared the mochi by pan-frying with a little oil over low to medium heat for 3 minutes on each side. This softens the mochi and gave it a crispy exterior before biting through into the piping hot black sesame and red bean interior. The mochi is chewy with the black sesame seeds adding texture, but the filling came through as a smooth, sweet paste without the notable flavour of either red bean or black sesame paste. We enjoy the texture of the mochi but would be unlikely to repurchase.
This Usagi Mochi Yaite Taberu Anko Mochi Kurogoma An contained 120 g or 4 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
