This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Hokkaidō Haskap, made with juice from haskap berries grown in Hokkaidō.
Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with an opaque red-purple hue and a sweet-tart, blackcurrant-like aroma reminiscent of wild berries. On tasting, the sour crystals on the surface provided an immediate tang, followed by a firm, bouncy exterior that yielded easily to a soft, jelly-like centre. The haskap flavour presented itself immediately—beginning with a mellow tartness from the coating and outer gummy layer, which then gave way to the rich sweetness of the central jelly.
The overall flavour was vibrant and layered, evoking a combination of blueberry sweetness, raspberry tartness, and blackcurrant muskiness. Continued chewing intensified this profile, as the exterior’s acidity remained present and mingled with the juiciness of the centre, delivering a bold and complex berry character. The refreshing aroma and subtle acidity captured the distinctiveness of haskap berries with surprising clarity. This was a distinctive flavour, well-executed and worth repurchasing.
