This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Kanagawa Shōnan Gold, made with juice from Shōnan Gold, a citrus fruit developed in Kanagawa Prefecture. A cross between the ‘Golden Orange’ (mother) and ‘Imamura Unshū’ mandarin (father), this cultivar is a Kanagawa original that took 12 years to develop. It is known for its refreshing flavour and high sugar content.

Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a translucent golden yellow hue, coated in fine sugar crystals, and emitted a rich, sweet citrus aroma. On tasting, the sugar coating provided an initial touch of sweetness before giving way to a firm, bouncy exterior that yielded smoothly to a soft, jelly-like centre. The Shōnan Gold flavour emerged immediately, offering a vibrant, aromatic citrus profile with a refreshing, predominantly sweet character. A subtle floral note reminiscent of pineapple was present in the body, lending further complexity. A faint hint of numbing citrus oil lingered in the finish—noticeable but neither tingling nor bitter.
This gummy captured the unique flavour of Shōnan Gold with precision, balancing sweetness, aroma, and texture in a refined expression of the fruit. A standout among citrus gummies and well worth repurchasing.
This Nippon Yell Gummy Kanagawa Shōnan Gold contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
