This is the Nippon Yell Gummy Tochigi Skyberry, made with juice from Skyberry strawberries grown in Tochigi Prefecture. Skyberry strawberries were developed in Tochigi in 2014, and named for their large size, beauty, and exceptional taste—’reaching the sky’. These strawberries can weigh around 60 g, often exceeding the size of a chicken egg.

Each gummy had an opaque pink-red hue, measuring about 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with a sweet-tart strawberry aroma. On tasting, the sour crystals on the surface provided an initial tang, followed by the firm, bouncy outer texture that easily yielded to a softer, jelly-like core. The strawberry flavour emerged immediately, led by the rich sweetness of the jelly centre. Further chewing intensified the flavour as the gummy’s exterior added a refreshing acidity, combining for an incredibly juicy strawberry taste that was richly sweet, yet balanced with a hint of freshness, avoiding an overly jammy sweetness. These gummies were worth repurchasing.
Compared to the UHA Mikakutō Mitsuboshi Strawberry Skyberry, this version highlighted the depth of the sweetness in the strawberry flavour, whereas the other focused more on the juiciness in the strawberry flavour. Both were delicious, delivering a rich strawberry flavour and enjoyable texture, making them well worth repurchasing.
This Nippon Yell Gummy Tochigi Skyberry contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
