This is the Lotte Watermelon and Melon Bar. Each box contained three watermelon bars and three melon bars, both containing 5% juice concentrate of their respective fruits, and each measuring 11 x 6 x 2 cm.
Watermelon. The bar took on the shape of a triangular wedge of watermelon, with a green component resembling the skin and a red aspect interspersed with dark chocolate chips, mimicking the seeds within watermelon flesh.
The watermelon flavour was natural, meaning it was subtle without artificiality or excessive sweetness. The small chocolate balls were textually interesting bringing crunch and pops of rich non cheap chocolate flavour. The green ‘skin’ was softer compared to the firmer red part, and tasted like melon-flavoured soda. Overall, this was a refreshing ice bar with good watermelon flavour, and was our preferred flavour of the two.
Melon. The bar took on the shape of a triangular wedge of muskmelon, featuring a green component resembling the skin and a yellow aspect interspersed with white chocolate chips to mimic seeds within muskmelon flesh.
The muskmelon flavour was immediate as pronounced musky floral notes, while the white chocolate provided a crunchy texture with warm, sweet notes that contrasted the fruity melon. Similar to the watermelon version, the green ‘skin’ was softer compared to the firmer yellow part and replicated the melon-flavored soda notes. However, there was less flavor contrast with the yellow component. Overall, the muskmelon version was simply less interesting than the watermelon.
We would inclined to repurchase a version that contained only the watermelon flavour.
This Lotte Watermelon and Melon Bar contained 420 mL (3 x 70 mL watermelon, 3 x 70 mL melon). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
