Molly Tea Camellia Matcha

This is the Camellia Matcha ($8.50, less ice, 70% sugar) from Molly Tea, featuring a white-hued camellia-scented oolong milk base topped with green-hued matcha cheese cream. It was released as part of their Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) offerings.

Consumed before stirring, the camellia oolong milk base presented with a pronounced sweetness and a bold dairy presence that largely obscured the tea’s more delicate floral notes—particularly when compared with the standalone camellia oolong milk tea. The blossom’s nuance felt subdued beneath the creaminess and sugar.

Once stirred to incorporate the matcha cheese cream, the camellia character receded further into the background, overtaken by the grassy, vegetal depth of the matcha. The overall impression became that of a subtly floral matcha rather than a distinctly camellia-forward drink. In contrast to their jasmine matcha variation, which carries a more assertive floral profile, this version leaned more heavily into matcha’s earthiness. That said, the matcha cheese cream played a functional role in smoothing the structure of the drink., without any sharp dairy notes. It softened any lingering astringency from the camellia oolong and created a rounded, cohesive texture, resulting in a smooth and composed finish.

Overall, this was a well-constructed and texturally polished drink, though its floral identity felt restrained—more a matcha-led beverage with a whisper of camellia rather than a balanced dual expression.

This Camellia Oolong Milk Tea was purchased from Molly Tea in Sydney, Australia in February 2026.
