The beverage had an opaque dark tan hue with herbal jelly at the base. Consumed chilled, the boldness of this heavily oxidized, dark oolong tea held its own as a milk tea, with its signature orchid notes providing a fresh and floral fragrance, finishing with a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. The herbal jelly, gently bouncy, subtly herbal, and mildly sweet, paired perfectly. The bold strength and unique flavour of Da Hong Pao, without the astringency and bitterness of black tea or the grassy vegetal qualities of green tea, make this oolong one of our favourite tea bases for milk tea, and one we’ve reordered time and again.
