A recipe for lemon shortbread with lemon butter was one of many that an elderly neighbour shared with my mother back when I was a child – about four years old – and to this day, we still use the same recipe. Having grown up with it, I enjoy buttery and lemony flavours, so couldn’t pass up these Arnott’s Twisted Faves Lemon Butter Scotch Finger.

These scotch fingers smell like lemon butter. The buttery short bread flavour came through immediately, followed by an enjoyable natural lemon flavour that’s zesty, yet its sharpness is mellowed by the rich buttery notes. Essentially, these taste just like the lemon shortbread of my childhood without the curd. Indeed a sandwiching lemon curd would’ve added pops of tangy citrus, although the shortbread itself does not feel dry.
