These Crown Zappo Flavour Chews were a staple in our high school canteen, specifically the cola and grape flavours. This watermelon flavour was a new-to-us flavour.

Each package contained seven chews wrapped individually in wax paper.

The chews were about 2 x 1 x 0.5 cm in size and opaque pink in colour with a sweet watermelon fragrance. On chewing through, the watermelon notes coming through sweet and artificial in the beginning before developing with a hint of the promised sourness in the body. The chew is very sticky — both on touching and to the teeth — with the watermelon flavour tending towards artificiality. Overall, these were not a particularly impressive confection, but as children, we’re not fussy about our source of sugar so who were we to know better? This was a definite blast from the past.
