This Cucuchi Yufuin Dried Fruit Kabosu Kanjuku is the candied kabosu version of the ripened fruit and follows on from the shinsen or unripe candied kabosu that we tried earlier.

The candied kabosu is yellow as the fruit has ripened prior to being harvested and has a slighty sweet aroma that’s neither zesty nor citrusy.

Upon tasting, the candied kabosu has the same initial sweetness from the sugar crystals before a rich sweetness from the ripe kabosu came through ahead of a gentle acidity in the finish. As with the green kabosu, this one does not have any hint of bitterness. However, we prefer this ripened kabosu as it had a much richer and fragrant flavour than the green kabosu, making it easily superior to the other brands of candied kabosu available in Ōita, which taste like lumps of sugar.

This Cucuchi Yufuin Dried Fruit Kabosu Kanjuku contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Yufuin, Ōita, Japan in 2019.
