Crumpets are a fond memory from childhood, so we were briefly excited by the prospect of this variation: Golden Bakery Crumpet Toast.

The crumpet toast is about 10 x 9 x 1.5 cm with its density somewhere between the small air pockets of toast and the large air pockets of a crumpet. Served toasted with butter, the crumpet toast has an incredibly dense and dry texture that lacked flavour. One would expect it would draw on the redeeming aspects of its inspiration, but the crumpet toast lacked both the tenderness, moisture as well as flavour of both crumpets and toast alone.  We’re disappointed and getting through the loaf was a chore.

This Golden Bakery Crumpet Toast contained 700 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2020.
