Casahana Elegance 2D Black Sesame Gold & Jade Custard Mooncakes

This is the Casahana Elegance 2D tin.

The tin contained their Black Sesame Gold (left) and Jade Custard (right) mooncakes.

The Jade Custard mooncake measured approximately 6.6 cm in diameter and 3.5 cm in height, featuring a lotus design and a fragrant pandan aroma. The pandan flavour came through clearly, paired with a smooth lotus seed paste base. Melon seeds added some texture to balance the paste’s richness. While the pandan-flavoured lotus paste had a balanced sweetness that lingered on the palate, the custard centre amplified the sweetness without introducing a contrasting texture. Overall, the mooncake felt overly sweet, and we would have preferred a salted egg yolk centre to balance it.

The Black Sesame Gold mooncake had an oval shape, about 7 x 5 x 3.5 cm, with a stylised pattern. Although it lacked a strong aroma, the fragrant black sesame flavour stood out, blending smoothly with the lotus paste. Its nuttiness added depth to the usual lotus flavour. The thick paste and sweetness were substantial but not cloying, thanks to the textural contrast from the crunchy mung beans and the savoury, firmer texture of the salted egg yolk.

Overall, we were impressed by these Casahana mooncakes, which modernised traditional flavours while maintaining their signature richness.

This Casahana Elegance 2D Black Sesame Gold & Jade Custard Mooncakes contained two mooncakes each 170 g. It was produced in Malaysia and received as a gift from friends in Sydney, Australia.
