Lion Dekopon Cough Drops

Dekopon is a seedless variety of mandarin orange distinct for its sweet taste, large size and the large protruding bump on the top of the fruit. The name dekopon originated in Kumamoto Prefecture whose Fruit Agricultural Cooperative Federation owns the trademark in the name and licenses its use to all brands of the fruit, so long as a fee is paid and the fruit had a sugar level above 13°Bx and citric acid below 1.0%.

These Lion Dekopon Cough Drops uses juice from certified dekopons in Kyūshū.

The drops are elliptical in shape, opaque orange in colour, about 2 x 1.5 x 1 cm in size, and sealed individually.

There’s a very subtle dekopon scent to these cough drops, which belies the rich sweetness and minimal acidity of the dekopon flavour that was evident on dissolving slowly in the mouth, from start to finish. The drops last upwards of 10 minutes and stop coughs temporarily, with the dekopon flavour lingering without sweetness in the aftertaste along with only minor numbing of the tongue (oils in citrus skin have a numbing effect on the mouth).

This Lion Dekopon Cough Drops contained 80 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Kyōto, Japan in 2018.
