Nagatanien Wasabi Chazuke

Ochazuke, a traditional Japanese dish, combines hot green tea poured over rice with savoury toppings. This is the Nagatanien Wasabi Chazuke.

Each package contained six sachets.

To prepare, 100 g of cooked rice was placed in a bowl, followed by one sachet of seasoning, then topped with 150 ml of boiling water.

The resulting dish retained the savoury umami depth of the original flavour, enhanced by genmaicha notes and a subtle wasabi profile. The wasabi contributed more to the flavour than to spiciness, lacking the sharp heat often associated with it. Instead of the typical long strips of rice crackers, this version featured small crunchy balls, which paired well with the bits of wasabi stem. Once rehydrated, the wasabi stem added a pleasant crunchy texture and mild, fresh flavour. Overall, it offered an enjoyable, balanced wasabi taste, making it worth repurchasing. However, it was significantly milder compared to the spicier and more aromatic Kinokuniya Izu no Wasabi Chazuke.

This Nagatanien Wasabi Chazuke contained 32 g (6 sachets). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2023.
