Osulloc Tangerine Flower Tea

This is the Osulloc Tangerine Flower Tea. It’s flavoured with yeonggyul, a small, round, green citrus fruit more commonly known by its Japanese name, sudachi. The main place of production for sudachi is Tokushima Prefecture, but it is also cultivated on Jeju Island in Korea, hence the reference to ‘Jeju tangerine’.

It’s a tea bag looseleaf of post-fermented tea and half-fermented tea blended with sudachi and marigold.

Steeping a single 1.8 g tea bag in 150 mL of 90ºC water for 2 minutes, the resulting infusion displayed a clear golden-orange hue, accompanied by a fresh, flowery citrus aroma. Served hot, the sudachi notes emerged right from the start of each sip, initially coming through gently in the background before gaining prominence in the body. This sudachi flavour brought a slightly tangy taste with warm aromatic herbal undertones that were further enriched by the peppery, citrusy notes of the marigold flowers. Throughout each sip, the earthy sweetness of the fermented tea harmonized with the sudachi flavour, presenting a round and silky mouthfeel. This was followed by a subtle astringency and a hint of bitterness in the body. The tea delivered a refreshing experience, masterfully capturing the distinct citrus elements of the sudachi with elegance.

This Osulloc Tangerine Flower Tea contained 5.4 g (1.8 g x 3 tea bags). The tea was sourced from South Korea and was purchased in  South Korea in 2023.
