Pringles Beef Bowl

We picked up these Pringles Beef Bowl quite by surprise in Don Quixote when D went searching for it after spotting a stray tube near bags of KitKat.

Beef bowl, or gyudon, is a popular quick meal consisting of steamed rice topped with thinly sliced beef and tender onion, simmered in a sweet and savoury dash broth seasoned with soy sauce and mirin. Gyudon is available at very affordable prices from stores like Yoshinoya or Sukiya all across Japan.

These crisps are a pale yellow colour and dusted in a brown coloured seasoning and have a prominent savoury aroma that recalled the sweet onions of the gyudon. Upon tasting, a savoury beef flavour came through initially before the sweetness of the onion emerged in the body. The overall flavour was distinctly Japanese and a surprisingly accurate and enjoyable recreation of the flavour of gyudon. We’re duly impressed.

This Pringles Beef Bowl contained 100 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2019.
