This is the Storck Nimm2 Smile Gummi Apple Buddies. It contained 5% fruit juice concentrate from apple and elderberry.

Each gummy was in the shape of an apple with a face, measuring approximately 4.5 x 3.5 x 1 cm, and had an opaque white base and a layer that varied in colour—green, yellow, and red. The entire surface of each gummy was coated in sour crystals, releasing a salivating tart apple aroma.

Upon tasting, the sour crystals delivered an immediately intense sourness that persisted through to the finish. Even as the spongy marshmallow base melted, providing a source of sweetness, the acidity from the firmer and elastic, coloured components added its tanginess. The red-coloured section featured a hint of berry sweetness, distinguishing it from the crisper apple flavour of the green and yellow components. However, the apple flavour lacked the juicy sweetness of the fresh fruit, resembling more the apple skins than the juice.

While we enjoyed the texture of these gummies, the anticipated sweetness of apples was overshadowed by the dominant acidity and lacked the balance found in Haribo or Japanese gummies.
