This is the Suntory Horoyoi Umeshu Soda, a flavour part of the brand’s permanent lineup.

The liqueur was a transparent pale golden hue with a sweet-tart aroma of ume and accompanied by a moderate carbonation. Upon tasting, the vibrant ume flavour unfolded, featuring the musky sweetness reminiscent of apricot at the beginning, followed by an invigorating tartness in the body. The bubbles contributed to cleansing the palate, leaving a clean aftertaste.

In comparison to a traditional umeshu, such as from Choya, this liqueur displayed a thinner, less syrupy mouthfeel akin to that of a soda. Overall, it struck a pleasing balance, retaining a lively ume flavour with minimal bitterness, offering an easily approachable and refreshing beverage.

This Suntory Horoyoi Umeshu Soda contained 350 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2023.
