At the end of 2017, the Coles Ultimate 40% Chocolate Chip Cookies impressed us with their rich chocolate flavour and chewy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Fast forward 12 months and we find these The Happy Cookie Co 40% Double Choc at Woolworths.

They’re about 8 cm in diameter, 1 cm tall and described as being ‘delicious cookies made with milk (20%)  and white (20%) chocolate chips in a cocoa base’.

These cookies are crunchy with a good crumb, but the chocolate flavour was mellow from the cocoa base despite its colour. Most of the chocolate flavour comes from the milk and white chocolate chips, and these sweeter of the chocolates add an overwhelming sweetness to the cookie without much cocoa flavour. Compared to the cookies from Coles, these lack the rich chocolate and butter flavour of the latter. Dark chocolate chips would’ve added pops of cocoa flavour that would stand out from the cookie base without adding too much sweetness.
