This is the Whittaker’s Artisan Collection Single Origin Samoan Cacao. It’s described as being ‘a robust, full-flavour, earthy and rich sweet chocolate created using only Trinitario Cocoa beans from the perfect growing climate of Northwestern Savaii in Samoa’. It’s a bar of extra dark chocolate containing 64% cocoa content.

The bar has a rich bittersweet aroma, while on tasting, an initial earthiness came through before the dark chocolate melts on the palate and developed with the sweetness and gentle acidity of dried fruit in the body. The dark chocolate melts to a velvety smoothness, while its boldness in the body finishes with a hint of cinnamon and lingered long on the palate. The restrained bitterness and minimal astringency of this dark chocolate make it more accessible to those not usually fond of such cocoa content.

This Whittaker’s Artisan Collection Single Origin Samoan Cacao contained 100 g. It was produced in New Zealand and received as a gift from family visiting New Zealand in 2019.
