This is the Whittaker’s Artisan Collection West Coast Buttermilk Caramelised White Chocolate with Gingerbread Biscuit. It was described as ‘crunchy, spiced gingerbread biscuit pieces in caramelised white chocolate with the creamy richness of buttermilk produced in lush West Coast pastures’. The bar contained 6% gingerbread pieces, while the white chocolate contained 28% cocoa butter, 15% buttermilk powder and 15% New Zealand milk powder.

Each piece exuded a delightful caramelized aroma. Upon tasting, the initial impression was the sweetness of the white chocolate, complemented by the audible crunch of the crushed cookie pieces. As it developed, a subtle hint of acidity from the buttermilk emerged in the body. The unexpected richness and fudgy texture of the white chocolate stood out, which, despite its inherent sweetness as characteristic of white chocolate, proved to be quite enjoyable. While the ginger flavour did not dominate with each bite, it made its presence known in the aftertaste as the initial sweetness of the white chocolate faded away. Here, it revealed a spiced essence that initially hinted at cinnamon before settling into the lingering warmth of ginger.
