We’re not beer drinkers at all, but we do enjoy beer batters. This McCain Craft Beer Batter Chips John Boston Pale Ale is made using the John Boston Pale Ale, which is described by the producer as a ‘light-bodied, Australian style Pale Ale with subtle tropical fruit and grassy characteristics. Beautifully balanced with a crisp, clean lingering finish this beer is the most refreshing of pale ales’.
Going on that, we prepare these chips by baking in an air fryer preheated to 210°C for around 20 minutes until golden, tossing regularly.

There’s a prominent beer aroma on opening the bag that persists through cooking and tasting, which we thoroughly enjoy. A notable hint of hops gave each chip an enjoyable flavour while also creating a crisp coating for each fluffy chip. We can’t vouch for whether these chips are an authentic representation of the flavour of the John Boston Pale Ale, but they are everything we wanted the Birds Eye Deli Seasoned Chips Golden Ale Beer Batter to be, delivering in flavour as well as texture. We’re keen to try the golden ale and IPA flavours too!
This McCain Craft Beer Batter Chips Pale Ale contained 500 g. It was produced in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
