We stumbled upon Eighteen Plum during our stroll through Hong Kong’s Central Market. Being enthusiasts of gummies, we were easily tempted by their offer of a sample.

Their fruit gummies were shaped like miniature jewels about 1.5 in diameter and proudly highlight the use of real fruit juice. We picked up a handful of each flavour —

Mango: This gummy presented a subtly sweet and well-balanced natural mango flavor, accompanied by a distinct orange citrus note.

Orange. Featuring the most assertive fruit profile, this gummy boasted a vibrant and zesty citrus flavor, enhanced by a subtle numbing sensation from the fruit oils.

Strawberry. Initially carrying a medicinal undertone, the fruity flavor eventually emerged, transforming into a rich, jammy sweetness that effectively concealed the gelatin taste.

Peach. Capturing the essence of white peaches, this gummy, while avoiding medicinal associations, fell short of fully masking the prominent gelatin component.

Grape. Showcasing the deep flavor of grape concentrate, this variant successfully concealed the gelatin taste within its darker purple component.

Green apple. The fruit component imparted a delightfully light and crisp green apple flavor, effectively masking all but a subtle hint of the gelatin taste.
In summary, the vibrant fruity taste was delivered by the juicy center, while the gummy exterior exhibited remarkable elasticity and bounce. The high gelatin content in the juicy center was well disguised until the latter part of chewing, where the gelatin flavor became more pronounced. These gummies were also exceptionally sticky, making them less convenient to eat in the traditional manner of other commercially produced gummies and best enjoyed with chopsticks.
