Ogu Ogu in Burwood Chinatown sells waffles shaped like Crocs shoes ($5.20 each), with a choice of four fillings: red bean, corn, cheese, or custard.

Additional sugar jibbitz can be purchased for decoration, though we opted out, not being fans of pressed sugar candy. The waffles are made in a Croc-shaped iron, and a purchase of two comes packaged in a shoebox labelled “Crogu”—a portmanteau of “Croc” and “Ogu Ogu”.

Each waffle was about the size of a small shoe, complete with holes on top and tread detail along the sole. The exterior was crisp, while the interior remained light without being doughy.

The red bean filling stretched from toe to heel, offering nutty sweetness, though a chunky paste would have provided better texture than the smooth version used.

The corn custard filling was a standout. The custard was creamy and soft, while bursts of sweet corn kernels gave both flavour and textural lift, balancing the waffle’s generous size without becoming heavy.

Overall, the Croc waffle proved more than a novelty, offering both crisp texture and enjoyable fillings. It was worth seeking out for its playfulness, with enough flavour to justify the gimmick.
