Bengong’s Tea Longan Coconut Crush

This is the Longan Coconut Crush ($9.80; fixed ice, minor sugar) from Bengong’s Tea, featuring a coconut smoothie made with coconut water, coconut milk and coconut cream, alongside coconut jelly, longan and water chestnut.

The beverage presented with a layered structure. A translucent off-white coconut jelly formed the base, followed by pale cream cubes of longan and water chestnut, while a pure white coconut smoothie occupied approximately 80% of the cup. Aroma opened with rich coconut notes, supported by a mild sweetness.

Initial contact delivered a rich and creamy coconut profile with a smooth, moderately thick body. The combination of coconut water, coconut milk and coconut cream created a pleasantly nutty tropical flavour, while the minor sugar level was sufficient to temper the savoury edge of the coconut without making the beverage overtly sweet. The smoothie softened quickly, allowing the toppings to integrate readily into each sip.

Through the mid-palate, texture became the defining feature. Water chestnut cubes provided a crisp and crunchy bite with nearly every mouthful, creating consistent textural contrast against the smooth beverage base. The coconut jelly contributed a silky, melt-in-the-mouth texture that complemented the richer smoothie component. Flavour remained centred on the coconut throughout, with little interruption from the advertised fruit component. While occasional pieces of longan could be found, they were sparse and contributed minimal flavour, making their presence difficult to discern without actively searching for them. As a result, the beverage functioned more as a coconut-based textural drink than a coconut-and-longan combination.

Towards the finish, the creamy coconut notes persisted cleanly, supported by the lingering crunch of the water chestnut and the soft dissolution of the jelly. The absence of any meaningful longan contribution became increasingly apparent, with the fruit neither shaping the flavour progression nor materially influencing the overall profile. Aftertaste carried a mellow coconut sweetness alongside residual nutty richness.

Overall, a coconut smoothie beverage with a largely linear flavour trajectory and contrast-driven texture integration, resulting in an enjoyable coconut-focused drink whose execution falls short of its advertised longan component.
