Mid-autumn festival came and went in September and we’re still slowly going through our mooncakes. This is the KLT Mooncake Low Sugar Golden Jade 2 Yolk.

It’s our first time trying a jade mooncake. It’s baked and filled with a ‘jade’ green coloured mixture of pandan flavoured lotus paste and flakes of lotus seed. This one featured two salted egg yolks.

The pandan flavour came through with a fragrant floral flavour without overpowering the lotus paste base, which is smooth and well accented by the crunch of the flakes of lotus seed. The egg yolks add pops of savoury flavour and a denser texture that balance the sweetness and smoothness of the lotus paste well. Overall, we’re very impressed by the jade mooncake, which is an innovative spin on the usual lotus paste but maintains a connection to traditional flavours.

This KLT Mooncake Low Sugar Golden Jade 2 Yolk contained 185 g. It was produced in Malaysia and received as a gift from friends in Sydney, Australia in 2019.
