A sweet smoky aroma, reminiscent of candied bacon, accompanied the usual porky notes when opening the packaging. Each piece of pork crackle had its own unique size, contributing to the variation in both flavour and texture. Most pieces had an exceptionally crunchy, almost hard texture. The sweet flavour of the maple syrup sugar (similar in appearance to brown sugar) used in the seasoning was immediately noticeable, followed by a subtle smokiness. As the crackling was chewed, the porky flavour gradually emerged, subduing the initial sweetness and creating a more savoury profile akin to candied bacon. While we enjoyed the sweet and savoury interplay, we preferred the simpler light salt flavour of the original version.
