Kyōto Hōjicha Tofu Frappe ($11.80)

Initial contact delivered a bold roasted hōjicha profile with substantial aromatic depth. Unlike the Black Sesame Tofu Frappe, however, the body felt noticeably thinner and less creamy. Through the mid-palate, the restrained sweetness allowed a more pronounced grassy bitterness to emerge from the hōjicha. The lighter texture reduced the sense of richness, while the bean notes from the tofu became more prominent. Rather than supporting the tea, the tofu frequently competed with it, creating a less focused flavour progression. Although the roasted tea character remained evident throughout, the balance between the two components was less successful than in the black sesame version. Finish resolved into lingering roasted tea notes accompanied by mild bitterness and persistent tofu character.
