Chaffic Golden Osmanthus Tofu Tangyuan Bowl

This is the Osmanthus Golden Osmanthus Tofu Tangyuan Bowl ($5.50) from Chaffic, featuring tofu pudding, mochi balls and osmanthus jelly in soy milk, garnished with dried osmanthus blossoms.

The dessert was presented in a six-petalled disposable bowl, whose flared shape made it surprisingly easy to drink the remaining soy milk without spilling. The soy milk formed the foundation of the dessert, carrying a light beany flavour with restrained sweetness, while the silky tofu pudding integrated seamlessly to create a smooth, comforting base.

Through the mid-palate, the mochi balls introduced a soft, bouncy chew and a subtle glutinous rice flavour that contrasted pleasantly with the soy and tofu. The osmanthus jelly provided a firmer, springier texture, although serving it as a single large piece made it awkward to eat, requiring it to be cut apart with the spoon. Smaller pieces similar in size to the mochi balls would have created a more cohesive eating experience.

Towards the finish, the dried osmanthus blossoms contributed a delicate floral aroma, although they imparted little flavour beyond a slightly chewy texture. The dessert resolved into a light, floral and gently sweet finish, with the soy milk and tofu leaving a clean, soothing impression on the palate.

Overall, a dessert bowl with a layered flavour progression and complementary textural integration, resulting in a light, comforting structure balanced by gentle floral notes.

This Golden Osmanthus Tofu Tangyuan Bowl was purchased from Chaffic in Sydney, Australia in June 2026.
