We picked up this Hakata Hyakunengura Hakata Sparkling Amaou from the brewery itself during our recent visit to Hakata Ward in Fukuoka. It’s a sparkling liqueur with 7% alcohol and made with the Hakata Amaou strawberry, which alone gave the drink it’s flavour and colour — no fragrances or colourings are used.

The drink was a clear red colour with a bright aroma of fresh, ripe strawberries and a moderate carbonation. Served chilled, the same bright notes of strawberries came through with a prominent sweetness at the head of each sip before developing with a gentle acidity into the body before the characteristic bitterness of alcohol emerged in the finish. Overall, we thoroughly enjoy the vibrancy and sweetness of the strawberry here.
This Hakata Hyakunengura Hakata Sparkling Amaou contained 250 ml. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Fukuoka, Japan in 2019.
