This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Tochigi Tochiotome Strawberry, featuring candied and dried Tochiotome strawberries grown in Tochigi Prefecture. Introduced in 1996, Tochiotome is the most widely produced strawberry variety in the “Strawberry Kingdom,” as Tochigi is known.

Each bag contained three strawberries with each measuring approximately 3 x 2.5 x 1 cm and emitting a vibrant sweet-sour strawberry aroma. On tasting, the strawberries were firm to the touch with a thin layer of crystallised sugar that added an initial coolness on the palate and a slight crunch when bitten into, yielding to a softer interior. The taste resembled strawberry jam but with the texture of candied fruit—drier and more set. As the chew progressed, the rich strawberry flavour deepened, with the initial sweetness balanced by a refreshing tartness that became more prominent mid-bite. The strawberry seeds added a pleasant texture without any fibrosity or sponginess.

Overall, these were enjoyable for their concentrated flavour and balanced sweet-tartness, though the price might seem steep considering there were only three strawberries per bag.
This Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Tochigi Tochiotome Strawberry contained 17 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
