Nippon Yell Gummy Gunma Yayoihime Strawberry

This was the Nippon Yell Gummy Gunma Yayoihime Strawberry, featuring purée from Yayoihime strawberries grown in Gunma Prefecture. This strawberry variety, known for its large size and vivid scarlet hue, is prized for its balanced sweetness and acidity, as well as its firm flesh and excellent shelf life.

Each gummy measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and 1 cm in height, with an opaque light pink-red colour and a fragrant strawberry aroma carrying a rounded hint of sourness. On tasting, the sour crystals coating the surface provided an initial tang, which was followed by a firm, bouncy exterior that gave way to a softer, jelly-like core. The outer layer released a juicy sweetness early on, with a gentle, balanced acidity—noticeably less sharp than that of the Sendai variety. Continued chewing melted the inner jelly, releasing a richer sweetness in the second half of the tasting. In contrast to the more sour-forward Sendai version, the Yayoihime gummy offered a more harmonious balance of sweet and sour, with a solid, rounded strawberry flavour and a subtle jammy nuance.

This Nippon Yell Gummy Gunma Yayoihime Strawberry contained 40 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2024.
