This is the Zunda Saryo Zunda Mochi Petit.
Zunda mochi is a type of wagashi popular in northeastern Japan, particularly in Sendai. It typically consists of mochi topped with sweetened mashed edamame paste, known as zunda.

In this version, the edamame paste completely enveloped three pieces of mochi.

On tasting, the mochi pieces were conveniently bite-sized, offering a tender, smooth, and pleasantly bouncy chew. This contrasted with the zunda, which had the consistency of a thick paste but retained a satisfying texture, similar to tsubu-an. The sweetness of the zunda was noticeable yet mellow, allowing the earthy, ‘green’ beany flavour of the edamame to shine through. The texture was reminiscent of eating steamed edamame beans. Compared to the zunda shake, the zunda flavour in this treat was more intense, sweeter, and thicker, as expected. While enjoyable, it would be chosen second to the zunda shake, which offered added complexity from its vanilla and dairy base.
This Zunda Saryo Zunda Mochi Petit contained one serving. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sendai, Japan in 2024.
