We’ve been on a quest for honey chicken lately. We chanced upon our favourite at Sun Ming BBQ Restaurant in Parramatta and then interspersed returns to that restaurant with others serving it at a more affordable price. This time it’s Yue Fong Chinese in Rydalmere.

This is the Boneless Chicken with Honey Sauce ($15.00). The pieces are have a darker coloured batter with a more orange/red coloured honey sauce, which resulted in a heavier and more doughy mouthfeel than the light crispness of our favourite from Sun Ming BBQ Restaurant. Overall, it’s a few dollars cheaper, though, and the flavour and texture is still miles ahead of the honey chicken from food courts so we may return for this.

This is the Deep Fried Crisp Skin Chicken with Lemon Sauce ($11.00). Between this and the dish above, we weren’t sure when ordering as to which would be the proper honey/lemon chicken as this one mentions the chicken is deep fried but the former does not. This one turned out not to be what we were after but we were pleasantly surprised by hi ow much we enjoyed the crispness of the skin with the tangy lemon honey sauce even if the pieces of chicken were rather dry.
Overall, our first impressions of Yue Fong were promising and we’d be keen to see if the food is much different when dining in at the restaurant.
