BonBons Bakery, Carlingford

We’d walked past BonBons Bakery any number of times only to continue on after being unimpressed by their bread selection. But visiting late in the day as they were just closing down we were convinced to try their products at a discount.

This the Doughnut ($1.30, usually $2.00). It’s around 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height.

We had hopes for a light and fluffy doughnut, but we were disappointed by its dense and chewy texture — unlike mochi doughnuts which are light and chewy — along with an oily flavour that lingered with every bite.

This is the Jam Doughnut ($2.00, usually $3.20). It’s around 8 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height.

Again with this doughnut, we were disappointed by dense and chewy texture as well as the oiliness of the doughnut. The jam filling was overly sweet, much like jam from a jar, without added acidity to lift and cut through the rest of the doughnut.

We’re disappointed by the lacklustre quality of the breads at BonBons Bakery and glad we didn’t buy them at full price considering they’re supposed to be an international franchise, which suggests they have some formula that’s been proven to work.

BonBons Bakery is located at Shop SP133, Carlingford Court Shopping Centre, Cnr Pennant Hills and Carlingford Rds, Carlingford NSW 2118.
