This is Jeon & Kalguksu Jip, a casual Korean restaurant focused on its two namesake specialities: jeon and kalguksu.

Pork Rib Kimchi Kalguksu ($20.00)
The dish featured four pork ribs alongside generous chunks of kimchi in a thick, viscous broth topped with scallions. The broth delivered a pronounced oceanic clam base, with the kimchi contributing acidity, spice and savoury depth. The pork ribs were tender and easily separated from the bone, while the noodles maintained an al dente texture. Compared with those at Hansang Kalguksu in Eastwood, the noodles were thinner and less doughy, though we preferred the latter for their greater substance and chew. The broth coated the noodles effectively, creating a hearty and satisfying dish with a well-balanced interplay of seafood, meat and kimchi.

Clam Kalguksu ($17.00)
The dish featured a generous quantity of clams alongside shredded carrot, leek and a topping of shredded seaweed. The broth shared the same oceanic foundation as the kimchi version, though presented with greater clarity and restraint without the assertive influence of kimchi. The clams contributed considerable flavour, but a number contained residual grit, which disrupted an otherwise cohesive eating experience. The noodles were again tender and al dente, absorbing the broth well. While the vegetables added sweetness, they had softened considerably during cooking, leaving little textural contrast to complement the noodles and seafood.

Mini Kimchi Jeon ($8.00) and Mini Seafood Jeon ($8.00)
Both jeon had crisp edges and soft interiors. The kimchi version had a looser structure and a savoury, garlicky profile, supported by moderate chilli heat that mirrored the accompanying kimchi side dish. The seafood version was more cohesive and slightly drier, resulting in a crisper texture overall, though the centre remained soft. Seafood content was relatively sparse, with only a small number of clam and squid pieces detected beneath a batter-forward structure. The accompanying dipping sauce was also provided in a notably limited quantity, leaving little room for repeated use across both pancakes.

Sidedishes (complementary)
The meal was accompanied by spring onion kimchi and cabbage kimchi. The spring onion kimchi carried a pronounced bitterness that may divide opinion. The cabbage kimchi was more successful, balancing moderate spice, acidity, crunch and softness in a familiar and enjoyable manner.

Overall, well-executed kalguksu with hearty broths and good value, supported by approachable jeon portions, though some refinement in execution and presentation would improve the overall experience. The menu design was also difficult to overlook, relying heavily on AI-generated imagery that ranged from distracting to mildly unsettling.
