These Turkey Hill Sugarbush Mini Maple Cookies use maple leaf-shaped mini cookies. I’ve no doubt that the maple syrup they use is 100% pure, but it’s a misleading claim because it achieves its actual flavour also from sugar, glucose, fructose (all of which appear before maple syrup in the ingredients list) and ‘natural flavour’.

These cookies are maple leaf-shaped and about 3 x 3 x 0.5 cm in height with the sweet aroma of maple syrup that recalled the McDonald’s cookies from my childhood.

Upon tasting, the biscuits yield to the teeth with a soft, airy crumb — much like shortbread — that dissolves swiftly on the palate to deliver a deep sweetness with hints of caramel that is characteristic of maple syrup and lingered in the aftertaste. In essentials, these taste like the maple flavoured biscuits in the Mr Maple Flavoured Cookies yet have a softer crumb and lack the pop of pop of maple butter-like cream sandwiching the cookies. These cookies deliver on the promised maple syrup flavour but we prefer the more considered texture and flavour in the Mr Maple version.
