Aomori Kitchen Pope, Aomori

Aomori Kitchen Pope is situated directly opposite JR Aomori Station, offering convenient access and a relaxed setting for a homely meal. The restaurant centres its menu on the seafood and mountain produce of northern Japan, with a focus on freshness and generous portions.

Anago Tendon (¥1,300)

The anago was fried fresh to order, encased in a light, crisp batter. The eel itself was flaky and juicy, though the preparation highlighted its natural texture rather than the richer depth of grilled unagi with sauce. The portion of eel was notably sizeable.

Omakase Kaisen Don (¥1,800)

This kaisendon featured a satisfying assortment of seafood: a plump scallop, salmon, tuna, kingfish, octopus, squid, and tamagoyaki, all served atop well-prepared vinegared rice. The freshness of each component was evident, with the scallop in particular standing out for its sweetness and texture.

The accompanying clam miso soup added a regional touch consistent with Aomori’s strong seafood reputation. The side of seaweed salad offered a fresh, cooling contrast, while the pickled daikon provided a subtle tang and crispness.

Complimentary hōjicha, served in rabbit and sakura-patterned cups, rounded off the meal.

Overall, this is a satisfying restaurant offering generous portions made with fresh local seafood, a comfortable atmosphere, and a very convenient location. The menu features a wide selection of items, making it suitable for both quick meals and more leisurely dining.
