Japan 2024 – Day 7: Aomori – Hirosaki

Across both Hirosaki and the wider Aomori Prefecture, apples are not only an agricultural product but a defining regional identity, with the prefecture accounting for the majority of Japan’s production. This post goes through what we did on our first evening in Hirosaki, after arriving from Ichinoseki.

At Art Hotel Hirosaki City, the location sits directly adjacent to the station, reducing transit friction on arrival and departure.

The room provided a good footprint, with enough open space to manage luggage without reconfiguration. Fixtures were functional: a mid-sized television adequate for short stays, and a firm mattress paired with two pillows — one lower-profile and one memory foam — allowing basic adjustment. Linen condition was mixed; while usable overall, the blanket cover showed visible age.

Housekeeping was uneven. Dust accumulation was noticeable along the coloured walls, suggesting missed detail cleaning, though the main surfaces of the room remained acceptable.

Temperature control skewed warm, requiring the window to be opened for relief even with the air conditioning off and external temperatures near 2°C. The room, however, compensated with an expansive outward view across Hirosaki’s horizon and the train line.
