This past long weekend, D and I went to Canberra to see Floriade 2013. Floriade is an annual flower festival that featured extensive artistic displays of flowering bulbs.
Of course, the aim was to take enough photos of the prettiness to make the three hour drive each way worth it.
The displays cover 4 hectares of Commonwealth Park with colourful flowers.
This year, the theme was Canberra’s centenary as Australia’s capital. An aerial view of the area shows that each display resembles a Canberra icon, such as the vertical elevation of the National Library of Australia, a double helix for Questacon, and the WiFi symbol for CSIRO. You could get an aerial view on ferris wheel that only gave you an aerial view of one or two of the flower beds (granted, the flower beds were huge!).
Floriade 2013 was located in Commonwealth Park, Commonwealth Avenue, Canberra ACT 2601 from 14 September until 13 October 2013.
