Brodburger, Fyshwick

Brodburger has a highly regarded reputation in Canberra, so we stopped by their Fyshwick location on the way back to Sydney.  The store is located within Capital Brewing Co inside a food truck that is ‘parked’ there permanently (there are no wheels to the truck and the utilities are connected directly to the building itself).

Brod Burger ($16.50). It consisted of a 200 g flame-grilled beef patty, lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, homemade aioli, tomato relish and swiss cheese (from a choice of blue, brie, swiss or cheddar cheese).

The burger was big — about a third to half bigger than the ones at regular burger joints in Sydney — with the ingredients similarly generously portioned and fresh. D enjoyed his burger, with the patty cooked to a perfect medium, although a touch less fat content than we’re accustomed to. Thankfully, the aioli and relish, along with the crisp tomato and lettuce, provided sufficient moisture to counter the drier patty.

The Capital ($17.00). It consisted of a 200 g flame-grilled beef patty, iceberg lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, relish, homemade mayo, ketchup and swiss cheese (from a choice of blue, brie, swiss or cheddar cheese).

My burger was similarly sized with the patty was cooked to medium. However, the overall burger was quite dry despite the addition of ketchup. This made for a relatively clean eating experience, but I found myself wanting more bites with tomato to add some moisture.

Overall, the burgers at Brodburger are generous and fresh but otherwise not noteworthy. The wait was extensive (10-15 mins) and the loud atmosphere is something we’d prefer to avoid. We’ve enjoyed plenty of better burgers in Sydney, with John Belvedere being a very satisfying and far more accessible option.

Brodburger is located inside Capital Brewing Co at 3/1 Dairy Road, Fyshwick, ACT 2609.
