Up to now, all the pear ciders that D and I have tried have tasted like alcohol flavoured with pear, rather than alcoholic pear juice. While those two descriptions may sound like different ways of saying the same thing, there’s a world of difference between the two descriptors. And Somersby Pear Cider explains it perfectly.

The cider is a transparent pale straw colour with a sweet nose of fresh pears and moderate carbonation. Served chilled, bright notes of crisp pear came through from the head of each sip with a sweetness developing into the body ahead of a light acidity at the end of the body. A hint of astringency picks up in the tail as the sweetness of the pear flavour gave way to a drier, crisply clean finish and refreshing aftertaste.
This Somersby Pear Cider is easily our favourite pear cider to date. Whereas The Cider Lab Packham Pear Cider – another pear cider we enjoyed immensely – picked beautifully on the complex flavours of the pear itself, this one has the advantage of tasting more like a fresh pear juice that happens to be alcoholic than a cider that happens to pick up on the flavour of fresh pears.
This Somersby Pear Cider contained 330 ml. It was bottled in Australia and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2017.
