Alt is a relatively new brand of soft drink that markets itself as ‘soft drink done differently’, by which they mean it uses only 2.4% sugar from real fruit juice, it’s naturally sweetened with plan based stevia, and it uses no artificial colours or flavours. This one here is the Alt Mixed Berry & Apple Soft Drink.
The soft drink was a translucent deep red colour with an intensely sweet generic berry nose and moderate carbonation. Served chilled, similarly intensely sweet berry flavour – mainly raspberry, although the ingredients list cranberry and blackcurrant also – came through ahead of lightly acidic apple notes before developing with an overwhelming sweetness in the body that recalled grape flavoured cough syrup. A bittersweet finish characteristic of stevia sweetened drinks lingered in the aftertaste with the berry notes. Generally, I’m not a fan of this flavour, though the others may fare better.
