Stevia-sweetened drinks aren’t the most impressive, but we had hopes that this Alt Tropical Passionfruit would be an improvement on the Mixed Berry & Apple flavour.

The soft drink was a translucent yellow colour with a candy-like sweet tropical nose and moderate carbonation. Served chilled, notes of passionfruit came through from the head of each sip before the bitterness typical of stevia-sweetened beverages rears its head with acidity towards the end of the body and persisted into the finish, leaving a lingering dry aftertaste. Overall, the stevia does not do this drink any favours – while the sweetness is from ‘natural’ ingredients, the resulting flavour was unnatural and lacked the clearer notes of real sugar.
