This is the Woongjin Morning Rice Black, featuring a blend of white, brown and black rice, in contrast to the original version made with white rice alone.
The beverage presented with an opaque grey-purple hue and a pronounced sweet, nutty aroma.
Initial contact delivered moderate sweetness alongside gentle nuttiness, much like the original white rice version. Through the mid-palate, however, the blend developed greater roasted and nutty depth, giving the drink a more layered cereal and toasted grain character. The mouthfeel remained smooth, without noticeable particulate on the palate. Towards the finish, the sweetness softened while the roasted nuttiness carried through into a gentle, comforting aftertaste reminiscent of misugaru. The additional grains gave this version more depth than the original without making the texture heavier.
Overall, a roasted rice beverage with a deeper, more layered flavour trajectory and a smooth, cohesive texture, resulting in a comforting cereal profile. The sweetness was somewhat pronounced for regular drinking, although the richer roasted character made this version more interesting than the original.
This Woongjin Morning Rice Black contained 500 mL. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
