We have our go to brands for instant noodles – chiefly Nissin and Nongshim – but we picked up these Ching’s Secret Hot Garlic Instant Noodles on clearance.
Each package comes with four cakes of noodles with accompanying soup seasoning. The instructions for preparing them are very simple: you add one cake of noodles with one bag of seasoning to boiling water, cook for a few minutes, then serve.
These noodles have a medium heat, prominent but not overwhelmingly spicy so as to remove all enjoyment. The garlic flavour came through in the soup and on the palate at the end, but it’s rather mild overall for something that markets itself having garlic as its main flavour.
The simplicity of the instructions created confusion for us as the photo on the package suggests the cooking water should be drained for a mi-goreng style noodle. We ate it as a soup noodle this time, but we may try it other ways for the remaining.
