We enjoyed Coca-Cola Raspberry so much that we were sad to see go, but were encouraged PepsiCo Pepsi Max Raspberry appeared almost at the same time.
The soft drink was a translucent deep brown-black colour with a sweet fruity aroma ahead of the usual cola nose. Served chilled, the raspberry notes came through with an intense sweetness that recalled some cough medicine from childhood with subtle cola notes emerging in the background of the body before the sweet raspberry returns in the finish and lingered unpleasantly in the aftertaste.
Overall, the raspberry flavour here tastes artificial and flat: it takes on the sweetness of the fruit and ignores its acidity. In comparison, the Coca-Cola Raspberry embraces the tartness for a more natural raspberry flavour with a more restrained sweetness that makes it a pleasure to drink.
