I’m not a great fan of combining orange and chocolate, but it’s rarely something I can’t stomach. The aroma from this Moccona Spiced Choc-Orange Sensation Latte may be the exception.

The packaging entreats you to ‘slip into a world of rich chocolate, sweet orange and exotic ginger, cardamom and clove flavours’ with this choc-orange sensation latte.

Each sachet contained a brown powder with an orange and chocolate aroma.

Stirring in 150 mL of hot water, the coffee was a translucent medium brown colour with a spiced orange aroma. Frankly, the addition of the spices makes this aroma recall some of the worst Chinese herbal medicines and is so off-putting as to be revolting. Thankfully, the latte tastes much tamer than its smell. Served hot, the sweetness of the chocolate came through before zesty and fruity sweet orange notes emerged in the body ahead of a gentle hint of spice in the finish that lingered through into the aftertaste with the citrus. While it tastes much better than it smells, there’s no hint of coffee and it’s still not something to which I’d return. Ever.
This Moccona Spiced Choc-Orange Sensation Latte contained 190 g or 10x 19 g serves (16.5 g sachet + 2.5 g cocoa leaves). It was produced in Australia and received as a sample in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
