This is the Whittaker’s Dark Salted Caramel. It is described as ‘the perfect caramel combo’, which adds a touch of salt to their ‘rich, buttery, velvety caramel’ that’s then ‘smothered in divine 62% cocoa dark chocolate’.

Essentially this is the Creamy Caramel Block with dark instead of milk chocolate. Biting through the crisp dark chocolate, the boldness of the dark chocolate dominates from start to finish and overwhelms the toasty notes that one usually expects from caramel, meaning the latters serves only to provide smooth and gooey textural interest as well as a sweetener to temper the otherwise bitter notes of the dark chocolate. Perhaps the bolder complexities of a darker caramel would’ve countered the boldness of the dark chocolate better.
This Whittaker’s Dark Salted Caramel Block contained 250 g. It was produced in New Zealand and received as a gift from family visiting New Zealand in 2019.
